Kaisho - Reference sheet

Kaisho means Fly over the Sea.

This is the main character in a story (webcomic) I'm very slowly working on.

Technically based on a post apocalyptic Earth - humans very nearly wiped themselves out by pushing the environment so far that the very spirit of the planet chose self preservation over death. This was thousands of years ago. So long that the human race doesn't remember what happened, only that something very bad occurred. Rather like our Flood Myths today.

What humans don't know is that a great evil rose to power while the Earth was weak. Humans know it by many different names, and it's power touches nearly every inhabited corner. Yet the Earth has finally grown strong enough to start fighting back. To that end she quietly brought back the dragons, her chosen children.

Kaisho's egg was given to a human women who worshiped the Earth spirit, Gaia. None of them know what he is, only that he must be important. So taking him to a safe place in the mountains they have done their best to raise him. And since dragons age more slowly than humans, this has been a long process indeed. This is why he's rather skinny. Physically around eighteen to twenty, Kai hasn't reached his full growth, even though he's nearly fifty years of age.

Kai has nearly finished his training as a shaman, his mentor a spirit that serves Gaia. He's a thoughtful, kind hearted young man, not given to flights of fancy. Mostly due to his age, and having a gathering of very serious humans constantly teaching him to be responsible.

And of course the great evil hasn't been idle during his growing up, and finally knows where Kai is.

I call him a Chimeric Dragon because he's got characteristics of other animals. Chimera is known in general for a Greek myth, but it stands for any creature that's made up of the parts of other creatures. He's a humanoid body, the head of a lion, horns, and the ears of a deer.

Kai's breath weapon is ice, due to his element being water. No matter his feline appearance, this aspect gives him several other traits. He can breathe under water, and is immune to both cold and intense pressure. He can also see very well in the dark. A necessary trait for the ocean depths.

While Kai also has some shamanic magics, they aren't all that strong. Talking to animals, sensing the weather, purifying the land and water, even some healing.

Oh yes, and he can fly. Like the Oriental dragons of legend, without wings.
